  On the coast of our fine country, heading to the South West, you come across a wee town called Girvan. There's not much remarkable about it; it's a typical small fishing based town - there's a harbour, and a main road that runs through the town.
  
  You'll find the typical sea front amenities - great views of the ocean, fresh air, biting wind and hypothermia inducing temperatures. Don't blow straight through town though - The Marine is spectacularly good!
  
  Offering nothing more than your normal chippy, it's the sheer quality of food that sets it apart. Fresh Ayrshire potatoes for the chips, fish fresh from the sea that very morning as I heard them saying (not entirely sure if it's true or not, but it's a hell of a marketing bite!) and proper chip shop crunchy batter on almost everything.
  
  On the way to or from the football at the mighty Stranraer, a stop at Girvan is one of the highlights of the day. There's always huge queues, simply because of the reputation. It might be a tad on the dear side, but trust me, people - it's well worth it.
  
  There's a sit in restaurant area too, but it's just not the same. Take your chips, wrapped in paper, take a wee wooden chip fork and wander down to the harbour, or fight off the seagulls in the car park as you sit in a car, with windows streaming up, listening to the fitba' results on Radio Scotland. It's tradition!
  
  This is the other side of Scotland, far from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh, away from the gourmet burgers and fancy fare of Glasgow... but it's by no means a poor cousin. I can honestly say, every year that the UK votes for it's best chippy - it's a mystery to me that the Marine never gets a look in.
  
  Pick a sunny day, drive down the coast, stop on The Electric Brae, enjoy some of the best scenery Scotland has to offer and then gorge yourself on traditional, tasty Scottish chippy food. Cannae beat it!

  Oh wow, this place was amazing for lunch. We stopped here and shared double fish chips, battered haggis chips and sausage chips (which was battered) as well as tea. Great service, price and taste.....wow

  Good fish with generous serving size. Friendly staff and prompt attention. Standard fish & chip shop menu and prices average.
